Garrett Mott Co-Head Coach

My name is Garrett Mott and this will be my eighth year to be a Sharks swim coach. As Head Coach my goal is to promote the sport of swimming through time improvements and having fun. I believe the purpose of summer league is to grow swimmers as athletes and to help build their confidence through learning and improving strokes in a positive and supportive atmosphere. Most importantly, I swam for the sharks for 10 years and I want all these budding athletes to have memories of Sharks they will cherish just like I do!

As a swimmer, I swam for the Westwood Swim Team for 4 years and was captain my senior year. I was a regional qualifier for 2 years in the 200 Free and 200 Free Relay. Additionally, I swam with Nitro for 8 years. I'm so happy to be back at Westwood as the Assistant Swim Coach. I graduated from UT with degrees in Physics and Mathematics in December 2020 and went straight to teaching math and science at Westwood in Spring 2021. During my time with the Warriors, we have represented WHS at the UIL State Meet with tons of All State and All American recognized athletes.

Away from the pool, I enjoy playing piano and making spreadsheets to track and model random things in my life. I can't wait to get this season started and get on the road to lots of time Improvements, technical stroke improvements and so many fun memories in the making. Go Sharks!

Marley
Marley Kotick Co-Head Coach

Hi, my name is Marley Kotick, and this is also my eighth year being a Sharks coach! I swam for the sharks before coming a coach, and swimming was always the number one activity I looked forward to in the summer. I love coaching because I get to and be a part of a great community of swimmers and continue making memories with the sharks. Through swimming and participating on a team I learned a lot of the values and characteristics I still withold today.

My favorite thing about Sharks is the environment and support of the team. The athletes truly come together to support one another and families cheer and lift up all swimmers at the pool. This helps the swimmers love the sport and feel accomplished each week.

I am currently a 5th grade teacher at Maplewood Elementary. I will be wrapping up my 3rd year of teaching this spring. I am also beginning my 4th year coaching at Waterloo Swimming. At Waterloo, I was the interim Senior Coach and now am back to my assisting roles for both the age group and senior track groups. I went to the University of Texas at Austin, graduated in 2020, and earned my degree in Education. Prior to that, I swam for 4 years on the Westwood Swim Team and I swam club with Waterloo Swimming. Outside of swimming, I enjoy doing any activity outside, and love eating good food with friends!

Emma Bierley (2023) Assistant Coach

My name is Emma Bierley and this will be my second year being a sharks coach. I will be an assisstant coach this year and I can't wait to teach kids to love swimming. Although I have not been part of a summer league team, I believe that swimming is meant to be fun and not stressful. I am eager to give the kids a fun summer while learning techniques and skills to be faster in the water.

I moved from Singapore after my freshman year of high school and I lived there for 10 years. I graduated from Westwood High School and swam all four years on the team. I was team captain for the 2021-2022 school year, went to state all three years I was at the school and I have been swimming club since I was 5 years old. I am now attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison studying international studies with minors in business and french and am on the club swim team at UW. I competed at the nationals competition and had a blast.

Outside of swim I enjoy crafting, traveling, and playing volleyball. I am so excited for the season and seeing all of the sharks again! See you all at the pool, go sharks!

Bria Rowe (2023) Assistant Coach

My name is Bria Rowe and this is my second year being a Sharks coach. I will be one of the assistant coaches this year and I am so excited to continue my passion of teaching kids to swim. I have always wanted to coach swimming, not only because I love spending time with young spirits, but because I want to create the same memories for the kids as I had when I was a young swimmer. My priority is to help all of our Sharks to fall in love with swimming like I did. As for my journey, I graduated from Westwood high school last spring where I swam for 3 years; I now attend The George Washington University where I study Public Health and Biology and continue to swim, having had the joy of competing in this year's Club Swim National competition. I have been swimming for as long as I can remember and regardless of changing times, swimming has been and will remain my constant. I can't wait to spend another summer with The Sharks!

Keira Berkaw (2023) Assistant Coach

I'm Keira Berkaw, and this is my first year as a Sharks coach. I'll be an assistant coach, and am so excited to share my love for swimming and hear all the bizarre stories that kids have to share! Although I haven't had the chance to swim for a summer league team, I have coached gymnastics and private swim lessons in the past, and can't wait to expand my coaching experience as a Sharks coach!

When I was seven, my family moved from the Bay Area in California to Shanghai, China. At eight years old, I fell in love with swimming on the small aquatics team at my school. Moving to Austin six years later, I couldn't let go of the sport, and joined Waterloo Swimming where I fell in love with it even more. A few years later, I had the privilege of joining the aquatics team at Westwood High School where I swam and dove. I represented Westwood at regionals for diving and served as a relay alternate at both regionals and state. I graduate in May and will be attending UNC where I plan to major in biochemistry. (I'm a little indecisive, so this might change!) I love bagels, my shoe collection, and Ted Lasso. In my free time, I manage my non-profit and make elaborate, scrap-book style birthday cards for my friends and family. So excited to meet everybody at practices and meets this summer! Go Sharks!

Ben He (2023) Assistant Coach

My name is Benjamin He, but you can call me Ben! This will be my first year as a Sharks coach, but it's definitely not the first time I've been around summer league swimming. I have volunteered as a coach for the Westwood Swim and Tennis Camp for two years. Also, I grew up in the Westwood area, so I swam for a Sharks rival, the Barracudas. My memories of summer league are filled with sunshine, heat winner ribbons, and exhilarating racing. I'd love to share all I know about the sport with the kids and even help the Sharks beat my alma mater!

After summer league, I swam for the Northwest Austin Makos, Nitro, and Waterloo all to prepare myself for the legendary Westwood Warrior Swim and Dive team, which I had always dreamt of joining. It paid off and I had four phenomenal years where I was a part of a boys team that won 4 consecutive District titles and 3 consecutive Regional titles. During my senior year, I had the honor of serving as the Team Captain. I’ll graduate in May and will attend UT Austin, majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Plan II. One day, I hope to be a surgeon! In my free time, I love to bike, play basketball, play piano, and take pictures. I can’t wait to meet all of y’all at practices and meets this summer! Here’s to a great season!

Favorite Ice Cream: Peach?
