What is Twitter?

Twitter is a social networking service is set up to let users send and read short messages known as tweets. We will use Twitter to further enhance our BCC Shark communications. You will continue to receive team e-mails and have access to the website as usual. The bccharks tweets will provide helpful reminders about deadlines or quickly alert you about changes to practices, meets and other events. If you set up your mobile phone to accept bccsharks tweets through text messaging, you will always be one of the first to know!

Already have a Twitter account?

If you already have a Twitter account set up to work with your mobile phone, then all you need to do is start following us by sending the text message ‘follow bccsharks’ to Twitter (40404.) You might also have a Twitter smartphone application you can access. If this is the case, follow instructions to follow us through that application. If you have no idea what all this means, read on!

Setting up a Twitter account - it's easy!

If you do not have a Twitter account already, it is free and easy to set up a basic account. Go to www.twitter.com and click on ‘Let Me In’. Follow the instructions.

Once your account is created or if you already have a twitter account but no text messaging, look under Settings|Mobile and follow the instructions to activate your mobile phone number. Once your phone number is validated, you can then send the text message follow bccsharks. You will automatically receive future tweets. To turn off, you can send unfollow bccsharks.

Refer to your Twitter account or smartphone Twitter application for more information and Twitter commands. Please be aware that although Twitter does not charge for this service, standard message and data rates will apply per the agreement you have with your mobile phone carrier.
