Upcoming Meet - Sharks vs. Cedar Park Typhoons

The next meet will be this Saturday, July 1, at the Round Rock pool.

Meet Timeline

5:45am - Meet Prep team arrives
6:30am - Swimmer/Volunteer check-in
7:30am - Meet start time

Special Considerations

  • Your child needs to check in with the team parent at the time specified in the meet timeline and be prepared to start warm ups. Warm ups are an essential component in preparing for the swim meet. Swimmers who have not checked with a Team Parent at the appropriate time risks being scratched from the meet.
  • Your child is to stay in their age group tent during the meet or let the team parent know where they are going. Team parents are not responsible for finding your child to go to the ready bench to swim.
  • Do not leave the meet (unless you are a 6 and under at half time) without telling a coach! Your child may be entered in a relay at the end of the meet and it may not be in the heat sheet. Ask your team parent before you leave if your swimmer is swimming any more events.
  • Please make sure your child takes home anything brought to the meet. This includes all of their belongings and any trash they make. We need to be courteous guests and clean up after ourselves. It it not the team parents responsibility to clean up after the kids.

Our Cedar Park meet was rained out! Typically we do not make up swim meets, so assume there will be no make up unless we let you know otherwise. There some photos though, so check out the Photo page!

Divisional Meet

The Divisional Meet is on July 8. All 12 teams in the Northwest Swim Circuit will be competing in one of 4 divisional meets that day. We are in Division 2, competing against the Rattan Creek Hurricanes and Brushy Creek Marlins. All BCC Sharks swimmers are eligible to swim at the Divisional meet as long as the swimmer has participated in at least 2 dual meets. If a swimmer was on the heat sheet for one or both rainouts, that counts toward eligibility. We will contact families who have swimmers who have not meet this requirement; there are just a few swimmers in this situation. Another rule is a swimmer must have a time in an event to be entered.

Besides having 3 teams instead of 2 in the meet, there are also some other differences. Those differences are summarized below:

  • The deadline for reporting any swimmer meet absences is stricter since we have to send off our entries to the host computer person in advance, taking the July 4 holiday into consideration. The deadline for reporting meet absences is Saturday, July 1. PLEASE check your calendars and use the web link at www.bccsharks.org to report a meet absence. If an emergency comes up after Tuesday, we also would appreciate you notifying us as soon as possible before the day of the meet.
  • The scoring system will be different that in dual meets. In dual meets, place ribbons are awarded to 1st through 3rd place in relays and 1st through 10th place in individual events. Team points for a relay are as follows: 1st - 5 points, 2nd - 3 points, and 3rd - 1 point. Team points for individuals are: 1st - 4 points, 2nd - 2 points, and 3rd - 1 point.
  • At a NWSC Divisonal meet, relay events medals and team points are awarded as follows: 1st - 9 points, 2nd - 7 points, 3rd - 6 points. Place ribbons and team points are awarded as follows: 4th - 5 points, 5th - 4 points, 6th - 3 points, 7th - 2 points, 8th - 1 point.
  • At a NWSC Divisonal meet, individual events medals and team points are awarded as follows: 1st - 9 points, 2nd - 7 points, 3rd - 6 points. Place ribbons and team points are awarded as follows: 4th - 5 points, 5th - 4 points, 6th - 3 points, 7th - 2 points, 8th - 1 point, 9th - 0 points, 10th - 0 points, 11 - 0 points, 12th - 0 points.
  • A permanent NWSC Divisional Meet trophy is be awarded to the top team in each division. Trophies shall be awarded to the overall first place high-point swimmers and plaques to the second and third place high-point swimmers.

We are very short on Divisional volunteers. Our volunteer coordinators will look first to the volunteers that ended up not having to work at the Georgetown and Cedar Park rain out meets to fill the gaps. Stop by the the Shark Shack at the Round Rock meet on July 1 to sign up to get first selection on available positions. Thanks!

Invitational Meet

If your swimmer has one or more qualifying times in his or her age group events, you may elect to participate in this year's NWSC Invitiational meet. Participation is optional, but encouraged. You can check the website under the Meets page to check the list of the current BCC Sharks invitational qualifiers by both name and event.

The Invitational meet will be held at the Round Rock Dolphin's pool on July 9. The timeline has not yet been established. Unlike our other meets, you will need to fill out a online registration form to enter your child to swim at the Invitational meet. The cost is $4.00/event. An online form will be on the website by June 30 and will provide further instructions on sign up and payment. Entries and payment will be due by July 3 by 6 pm.

Please read the following CAREFULLY to understand how to choose your swimmers events:

A swimmer can only sign up for 3 events in which he/she has a qualifying time. Once up to 3 events have been chosen, you CANNOT change them after 6 pm on Monday, July 3. Your swimmers have the Round Rock meet on July 1 to qualify for events and still sign up for events before the deadline.

There are special provisions in place for late qualifiers at the Divisional meet on July 8. If a swimmer qualifies for a new event at the Divisional meet that he or she previously did not have an Invitational time, then only that event can be added late. Events qualified for at the Divisional meet can be added up to 30 minutes after the Divisional meet ends and only if the swimmer does not already have 3 events.

For example, your swimmer qualifies in 25 Free and 25 Fly before the Divisional. You can sign up for those events. If your swimmer then qualifies in 25 Back at the Divisional meet, you can add that event. However, if your swimmer qualified for 25 Free, 25 Fly and 25 Back and you turned in your registration before the Divisional meet for those 3 events, you cannot add your swimmer's new event or exchange it for a previous one. Likewise, if your swimmer signs up for only 2 events with the hope of qualifying for something new at Divisionals, the swimmer can only add the new event if qualified. You cannot go back and retroactively add an event previously qualified to make 3 events - no exceptions! We strongly suggest that you pick 3 events by July 3 if you have 3 or more by then and don't gamble.

The NWSC Invitational Ranking Report of all current Invitational Qualifiers from all circuit teams will be posted on the website later this week. Please check this report and verify that your swimmer is eligible for all the events you believe he/she has qualified for. You can also use this report to help your swimmer decide which events to enter. There will be a link on our home page to view the Ranking Report. You can view the 2006 Invitational Time Standards on our website: www.bccsharks.org/meets/invitqt.html. If you have questions, email Coach Chip or Denise Gimarc for help.

REMEMBER – There are no changes to your selections after 6 pm on Monday, July 3.

Shark Shack

Our Divisional/Invitational t-shirts have been ordered, and we are anxiously awaiting their arrival. Please watch for Shark Alert email to find out options for picking up your t-shirts. The shirts will arriving close to the Divisional meet, so there will only be a short time to pass them out if you want them before the meet. We will have any t-shirts not picked up at the Pep Rally on July 8 and also at Shark Shack at the Divisional meet.

Our 2007 T-shirt Design Contest is underway! Since we have missed 2 meets due to rain, a lot of our swimmers have not had the opportunity to turn in their drawings. Bring your designs to our next pep rally or meet, or you can carefully fold and mail your design to 8106 Texas Plume, Austin, 78759. Time is running out – so get those entries in soon!

The Shark Shack will have swim caps, goggles, and a few fun items for sale at the meet. Check out our newest shark toys! We still have a few 2006 t-shirts for sale. We also have a small number of t-shirts from years past that are half price!

If you lose something during the meet, check at the Shark Shack – people usually bring lost and find items to us while the meet is going on – don’t forget to label everything. At our last meet a small copper colored flashlight was turned in.

Parent's Corner

Interested in becoming more involved with the team leadership? We will have new and open committee chairperson positions, in addition to at least one Board position, to fill for next year. Chair positions are a seasonal commitment and Board positions are a year-round commitment. If you are interested, please reply to this e-mail or contact any current Board member and we will contact you to discuss further.

NWSC Swimmer Eligibility to Compete In Divisional Meet: As we have mentioned before, the NWSC Circuit has a rule that a swimmer must participate in at least 2 dual meets in order to be eligible to compete at the Divisional or Invitational Meets (July 8 and 9, respectively). The good news is that swimmers who were on the heat sheet for the two rainout meets will get credit for those meets toward the eligbility requirement. We only have 4 swimmers who have yet to have 2 meets so we're looking good as a team so far.

Lost and Found: An assortment of Shark items have been left after our meets. The Lost and Found is located at the Spicewood Pool so please be sure and check it for lost swimmer items!

Swimmer Name on Caps: Please put your swimmer's names (first name plus last initial) on each side of their swim caps with a permanent marker. This will assist the coahes in learning the swimmer's names and will assist our team photographers (Jeff and Debbie Dean) in getting the names right for photo captions.

Swimmer Ribbons: As a reminder, swimmer ribbons are not handed out at the meet. The ribbons are available in the ribbon boxes at each pool on Monday morning during practice time. Each swimmer or parent can find ribbons in a folder under the swimmer's name. We do not leave the ribbon boxes at the pool during the week after Monday. If you miss getting your ribbons, send an e-mail to scoretable@bccsharks.org to make arrangements to get your ribbons. You can always pick them up the next Monday.

Weekly Snack Schedule

It's SNACK time!!

Friday morning snacks are a Shark tradition! All of our sharks, coaches included, enjoy snacks following Friday morning practices.

Parents are asked to take turns providing these small snacks (cookies, brownies, popsicles, donuts, etc.) for each swimmer in their child's age group. Please e-mail Joyce Marshall at hospitality@bccsharks.org to volunteer for one day of snack duty. This is a great opportunity to use the Krispy Creme Card you bought through the Sharks fundraiser - 2 dozen doughnuts for the price of 1!
