Upcoming Meet - Sharks vs. Georgetown Aquadillos

The next meet will be this Saturday, June 17, at the Balcones pool. We warm up first since we are the home team.

Meet Timeline

4:45am - Meet Prep team arrives
5:30am - Swimmer/Volunteer check-in
7am - Meet start time

Parking

Since we share the parking lot with our golfing friends, SHARKS please park on the street around the clubhouse. Leave parking across the street and close in street parking for our visiting friends. Please refer to the map on the Meets page for the Balcones pool. There is more information regarding parking restrictions.

There will be golf carts driven by swim team volunteers cruising around to help you get to the pool easier if you do need help. Also, please do not block any of the driveways that are on the Club grounds, including cart paths.

Clubhouse Access and Restroom Use

Restroom space is limited as most of you know. Balcones Country Club rules stipulate that any non-members, excluding Summer Swim Pass holders, must be accompanied by a Club member when inside the clubhouse, even just to use the restroom facilities. Also, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult when inside the clubhouse. When entering the clubhouse, you must be dressed appropriately (both members and non-members). For example, no swim suits and bare feet. Swimmers should use outside facilities.

Special Considerations

  • Since we have to arrive earlier at the pool since we we warm up first, it will still be dark when you arrive. BCC has lights but it can get a bit dark under the tents until the sun comes up! A flashlight can be useful.
  • Your child needs to check in with the team parent at the time specified in the meet timeline and be prepared to start warm ups. Warm ups are an essential component in preparing for the swim meet. Swimmers who have not checked with a Team Parent at the appropriate time risks being scratched from the meet.
  • Your child is to stay in their age group tent during the meet or let the team parent know where they are going. Team parents are not responsible for finding your child to go to the ready bench to swim.
  • Do not leave the meet (unless you are a 6 and under at half time) without telling a coach! Your child may be entered in a relay at the end of the meet and it may not be in the heat sheet. Ask your team parent before you leave if your swimmer is swimming any more events.
  • Please make sure your child takes home anything brought to the meet. This includes all of their belongings and any trash they make. We need to be courteous guests and clean up after ourselves. It it not the team parents responsibility to clean up after the kids.

Looking Ahead

Pep Rally!

Time for another Home Meet Pep Rally! We will start our Pep Rally at 6 pm at the Balcones pool. Bring poster board and markers to make more signs for Saturday's meet. The highlight will be a "surprise" by the coaches.

The Balcones Country Club has invited all BCC Shark families (members and non-members) to extend our Shark Pep Rally celebration through Tuesday night "Tunes and June" party that is normally just for members and swim pass holders. Free musical entertainment will be provided by Carolyn Wonderland. Bring your lawn chairs out and enjoy the pool and music for the evening.

Optional Dinner: Al la carte dinner will be available for purchase poolside. Please help us give the BCC Catering Manager an idea of Shark attendance for dinner. If you are planning to purchase any dinner items off the menu, please send an e-mail. This is just a rough count - send your name and the number of dinners you think you will purchase. You don't need to purchase food to enjoy the evening, but please do not bring in any outside beverages or food.

NWSC Championship T-Shirt Orders

The deadline to order t-shirts is the end of the Georgetown Aquadillos Meet on June 17. Every year the NWSC offers championship t-shirts for purchase. The purchase of NWSC Championship T-Shirts is completely optional. Many families do purchase t-shirts to wear during the "championship" weekend, July 8 and 9. The cost is $10/each ($12/each for XXL and XXXL). Orders will only be accepted online on our website. Click here to go to the design and the instructions to order t-shirts. There is also a "hot link" on the Shark website home page to get to the order form.

Name Spelling for Trophies

June & John Holder, co-chairs for the end of season banquet this year, are in the process of ordering trophies for the team. If there are any spelling errors on the team roster please advise the Holders (by email or phone: 918-2753) by Sunday, June 18th. Since we have over 200 swimmers please include your child’s age and your contact info in case there are any questions. It is not necessary to respond if your child’s name is accurate.

Shark Shack

Fundraiser Alert! Be sure and stop by the Shark Shack and purchase a cup of It's A Grind gourmet coffee. All proceeds go directly to the team.

The Shark Shack will have swim caps, goggles, and a few fun items for sale at the meet. Check out our newest shark toys! We still have a few 2006 t-shirts for sale. We also have a small number of t-shirts from years past that are half price!

If you lose something during the meet, check at the Shark Shack – people usually bring lost and find items to us while the meet is going on – don’t forget to label everything.

Parent's Corner

Interested in becoming more involved with the team leadership? We will have new and open committee chairperson positions, in addition to at least one Board position, to fill for next year. Chair positions are a seasonal commitment and Board positions are a year-round commitment. If you are interested, please reply to this e-mail or contact any current Board member and we will contact you to discuss further.

NWSC Swimmer Eligibility to Compete In Divisional Meet: To alert new Shark families and remind seasoned Shark families, our Circuit has a rule that a swimmer must participate in at least 2 dual meets in order to be eligible to compete at the Divisional or Invitational Meets (July 8 and 9, respectively). If your swimmer does not participate in at least 2 of our 6 scheduled BCC Sharks dual meets, we will not enter him/her in the Divisional or Invitational meets.

Report Meet Absence for Saturday by End of Practice on Monday: A big THANK YOU for reporting your meet absences promptly. We need to know no later than end of practice on Monday that your swimmer will miss all or a portion of the meet on the upcoming Saturday.

Lost and Found: An assortment of Shark items have been left after our meets. The Lost and Found is located at the Spicewood Pool so please be sure and check it for lost swimmer items!

Swimmer Name on Caps: Please put your swimmer's names (first name plus last initial) on each side of their swim caps with a permanent marker. This will assist the coahes in learning the swimmer's names and will assist our team photographers (Jeff and Debbie Dean) in getting the names right for photo captions.

Swimmer Ribbons: As a reminder, swimmer ribbons are not handed out at the meet. The ribbons are available in the ribbon boxes at each pool on Monday morning during practice time. Each swimmer or parent can find ribbons in a folder under the swimmer's name. We do not leave the ribbon boxes at the pool during the week after Monday. If you miss getting your ribbons, send an e-mail to scoretable@bccsharks.org to make arrangements to get your ribbons. You can always pick them up the next Monday.

Weekly Snack Schedule

It's SNACK time!!

Friday morning snacks are a Shark tradition! All of our sharks, coaches included, enjoy snacks following Friday morning practices.

Parents are asked to take turns providing these small snacks (cookies, brownies, popsicles, donuts, etc.) for each swimmer in their child's age group. Please e-mail Joyce Marshall at hospitality@bccsharks.org to volunteer for one day of snack duty. This is a great opportunity to use the Krispy Creme Card you bought through the Sharks fundraiser - 2 dozen doughnuts for the price of 1!
